The Power Of Our Words- A Personal Revelation

I am sharing my heart today about something the Lord has been dealing with me on. I often speak out of hurt, anger, and frustration and before I even realize what I am saying, I have said something that I have come to regret later. Because I have spoken out of my emotions I have hurt people in my life. Today the Lord gave me a vision of exactly how my words have affected people in my life. I am sobered by how I have hurt some people by not being mindful of my words.

The Lord also showed me instances when I should have spoken a word of encouragement and I didn't.  I was either too busy, afraid or to wrapped up in my own stuff. He allowed me to see what that person was going through when He nudged me to speak a word of encouragement. This devastated me!
After much prayer and repentance, I wanted to share this with you all in the hopes you are able to be mindful of your words and his subtle nudge to use your words to encourage someone.

Watch carefully the words of your mouth:

Words are breath in action,

They build or destroy

They shape or manipulate

They restore or damage

Words create or extinguish

Words can paint timeless beauty

Or produce hate and violence

Words are used as weapons

As well as protection

Words make declarations

Or speak useless repetition

Words are music to ones ears

Or a haunting echo in one’s heart

Words supply wisdom

Or instigate fear

Words adhere like glue

And remain a lifetime

Words change attitudes and atmospheres

Choose your words carefully; let your breath move to edify and exhort.

Matt 12:36-37 “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Jesus is making the point that words are so much more powerful that we have ever realized. They are a power source that has almost been overlooked.
Lord, put a guard over my mouth so my words will be pleasant to hear and bring life to those they fall upon. Help me to imitate the words of Christ and to always check with You before I react out of emotion.  Guide my breath Lord so when I encounter people I am able build, strengthen and encourage them with my words.

  1. That was just beautiful and inspiring. I have been taught this lesson many times, sadly I haven't mastered it.

  2. Hi Julie:

I saw your link on the Bloggers on Facebook page.

This is so true - our words can kill and destroy. Once spoken, we cannot take them back. We certainly need to choose our words carefully.

    Blessings,
    Joan

  4. Such a tiny thing, but oh can our tongue get us into trouble. I pray often, "May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable unto you, my God and my Redeemer." Such a good reminder.
