How do you use your tongue?

Many of us do not realize the power of our tongue.

In Proverb's one of my favorite verses says, Words kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit—you choose. Proverbs 18:21 The Message

It is so true. What we say has the ability to create situations, emotions, and thoughts in othersas well in ourselves. A kind word helps people, negative words hurt - sometimes for a very long time.

But I want to address how this concept affects you, me, ourselves. Does what we say affect us? You better believe it does. Let me give you an example.

In our home we discourage the words "I can't". Why? Because we CAN! If we allow our kids, or ourselves, to fall into the trap of saying "I can't," guess what? We won't! It is an endless cycle of negativity.
Do you tell yourself negative thoughts during the day? Most of us can fall into that temptation, right? I have found myself dwelling on something bad, all it does is make me more and more angry and frustrated. But I finally realized that I have the power to change my thoughts and my words.

When you get out of bed, what is the first thing you say to yourself? I don't want to go to work", "I't's going to be one of thoes days", "I hate Mondays" or do you wake up and say "It is going to be a great day," "I am expecting GREAT things today"

Remember your tongue has power. It is your choice how you use it! Will you choose to BUILD or to DESTROY?

  1. I totally agree! If I am not careful the first words out of my mouth are, "Ugh, it's time to wake UP?!" Now I try to say "Good morning!" to my husband and kids ....it makes a difference. Thanks for your blog...I choose to BUILD!
